Bid/Grant Writing

As a social entrepreneur and the only bid writer in my CIC, I can relate to the difficulties of acquiring funding as an early-stage community organisation. It’s like the chicken or egg argument- which came first, the chicken or the egg? On the one hand, you need funding to run projects and build a track record, while on the other hand, not having a track record limits your access to funding opportunities due to low turnover. You’ve probably heard the good old joke and seen the memes portraying being expected by employers to have 20 years of experience as a new graduate. 

When I first started my social entrepreneurship journey, I was overwhelmed by the feeling of not being good enough for funding. Despite making the necessary efforts to learn about bid writing, I still had my taste of receiving one rejection letter after the other. Admittedly, if it weren’t for my lived experience, passion, and self-belief, I would probably have questioned if I was on the right path. At some point, I hired a large bid writing firm in hopes of solving my capacity problem and quickly realised I was just another client in the books. Not only were they expensive to work with, but they put very little effort into the bid and couldn’t even do their due diligence to know that the organisations they were writing applications to only fund charities and not Community Interest Companies. I was devastated, and that is why I am bringing you a solution.

As I mentioned in the About Me section of this website, I don’t claim to be an expert in anything. Still, having raised nearly £500,000 in funding as a self-taught bid writer since establishing True Cadence in 2020, I know a thing or two about articulating your vision and project objectives in a way that is clear, relatable, impactful and, most importantly, fundable. I focus on early-stage social entrepreneurs because I can relate to the grind, the passion and the hustle. My passion for nurturing and supporting new talent is reflected in my writing as I will support your organisation as if it were my own.
